Blesbok

The blesbok is a medium-sized South African grassland antelope, closely related to the bontebok. Males usually weigh about 143–176 pounds, while females average about 121–154 pounds, with shoulder heights around 34–40 inches. Their reddish-brown coat contrasts with a prominent white facial blaze, white lower legs, and lighter rump markings; both sexes have ringed, lyre-shaped horns, though males are heavier and more robust. Blesbok are primarily grazers and do best in open grasslands. They were brought into U.S. zoo, safari-park, and exotic-ranch collections during the mid-to-late 20th century, with ranch breeding expanding after the 1950s exotic-game boom.
