The “other antelope” category can include less common exotic hoofstock not listed individually, such as topi, tsessebe, reedbuck, gerenuk, mountain gazelle, bongo, or other regional subspecies. Sizes vary dramatically, from tiny 6-pound dwarf antelope to 1,500-pound eland-type species. Color, horn structure, herd behavior, and habitat preferences also vary by species. Most originate from Africa, the Middle East, or Asia. For U.S. purposes, many “other” antelope entered zoos, safari parks, and private ranch collections during the 1950s–1980s, when the exotic wildlife industry expanded across Texas and other states. Exact introduction dates should be handled species by species. (Texas Parks and Wildlife) (Y.O. Ranch Museum)
