Silk

“Silk deer” is not a standard recognized common name for a separate deer species in the family Cervidae. For website accuracy, this listing should be reviewed because it may be a typographical error for “sika deer,” “silk” as a descriptive coat term, or another intended deer category. If the intent is sika deer, the animal is an East Asian deer with stags generally ranging from about 90–250 pounds depending on subspecies and females generally ranging from about 60–150 pounds, usually reddish-brown with white spots in summer and darker in winter. If “silk deer” is intended as a color or marketing category, it should not be presented as a separate species unless the exact animal type is confirmed. The safest NAEWE treatment is to classify it under “Other Deer” or correct it to the intended species name.
