Tangerine Dove

“Tangerine dove” is generally a color variety of the domestic ringneck dove rather than a separate wild species. Adults are similar in size to other ringneck doves, usually weighing about 4–6 ounces, with males and females close in size. The tangerine color phase produces warm orange, peach, or cinnamon-toned plumage, often with a visible neck ring depending on the individual bird. These doves are gentle seed eaters and are maintained in aviaries, breeding programs, and educational settings. Because tangerine doves are domestic color mutations, they were not introduced as a separate wild species; they developed through captive breeding of ringneck dove lines already present in U.S. aviculture.
