The Nubian ibex is a desert and mountain wild goat native to northeastern Africa and the Middle East, including Egypt, Sudan, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and surrounding regions. Mature males generally weigh about 100–170 pounds, while females usually weigh about 55–80 pounds. Males have long, backward-curving horns and a beard, while females are smaller with shorter horns. Their coats are usually tan, sandy, or light brown, helping them blend into dry rocky terrain. Nubian ibex are agile climbers adapted to cliffs, deserts, and arid mountains. In the United States, they have been kept mainly in zoos, wildlife parks, and specialized exotic collections during the 20th century.
