The Buffalypso is a domestic water buffalo breed developed in Trinidad and Tobago from imported river and swamp buffalo bloodlines selected for meat production, adaptability, and tropical performance. Mature bulls may weigh about 1,500–2,000 pounds, while cows usually weigh about 1,000–1,400 pounds. They are generally dark gray to black, heavy-bodied, strong, and well suited to hot, wet environments. Buffalypso cattle are calmer and more livestock-oriented than wild buffalo species and are raised for meat, milk, and draft-type purposes in some regions. In the United States, Buffalypso and related water buffalo types have appeared mainly through specialty livestock farms, zoos, and private agricultural collections during the late 20th century.
