The Caucasian tur is a wild goat-like caprid native to the Caucasus Mountains between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. Mature males commonly weigh about 150–250 pounds or more, while females usually weigh about 80–130 pounds. Tur are stocky mountain animals with brown to dark gray coats, strong legs, and heavy horns that curve backward or outward depending on species or form. They are adapted to steep, rocky terrain, alpine meadows, and rugged mountain slopes. In the United States, Caucasian tur are uncommon and have appeared mainly in zoos, wildlife parks, and specialized exotic ranch collections during the 20th century.
