Kangaroo

“Kangaroo” is a general term for several large Australian macropods, including red kangaroos, gray kangaroos, and related species. Mature males may weigh from about 100 pounds to more than 200 pounds depending on species, while females usually weigh about 40–100 pounds. Kangaroos have strong hind legs, long balancing tails, small forelimbs, large ears, and pouches in which females carry young. Colors range from red and rusty brown to gray, tan, and blue-gray. Kangaroos are native to Australia and nearby regions. In the United States, they have been maintained in zoos since the early 20th century and later appeared in private exotic collections and educational facilities.
