The klipspringer is a small rock-dwelling antelope native to eastern and southern Africa, from Ethiopia and Sudan southward through rocky habitats of Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Adults usually weigh about 18–40 pounds, with females often slightly heavier than males; shoulder height is roughly 17–20 inches. Their coat is coarse, hollow-haired, yellow-gray to golden-brown, and speckled for camouflage among rocks. Males usually carry short spike-like horns, though in some populations females may also have horns. Klipspringers are agile, pair-bonded browsers that walk on specialized hoof tips. In the U.S., they are mainly zoo animals, with limited private collection presence. (Animal Diversity Web)
