Red-Flanked Duiker

The red-flanked duiker is a small West and Central African antelope found in savanna-forest edges, thickets, and drainage-line vegetation. Adults weigh about 13–31 pounds and measure roughly 24–32 inches in body length. Their coat is orange-red to reddish-brown, lighter below, with a dark dorsal stripe, dark lower legs, and a darker face or muzzle. Males have short backward-pointing horns, and females may sometimes have smaller horns. Red-flanked duikers are secretive browsers and fruit-eaters that rely on dense cover and quick escape. In the United States, they are mostly zoo and specialized private-collection animals, not common exotic ranch livestock. (Animal Diversity Web)
