The Siberian ibex is a large wild goat native to the mountain ranges of Central Asia, including Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia, China, Afghanistan, and surrounding regions. Mature males may weigh about 130–290 pounds, while females usually weigh about 75–130 pounds. Males have massive ridged horns that sweep backward in a broad arc, along with beards and heavier winter coats. Females are smaller and more lightly horned. Siberian ibex are adapted to steep cliffs, alpine meadows, and cold mountain environments. In the United States, they have been kept mainly in zoos, wildlife parks, and private exotic ranches during the 20th century.
