Spanish Goat

The Spanish goat is a hardy domestic goat type descended from goats brought to the Americas by Spanish explorers and settlers beginning in the 1500s. Mature bucks commonly weigh about 175–250 pounds, while does often weigh about 80–150 pounds. Spanish goats come in many colors, including black, white, brown, red, tan, spotted, and mixed patterns, and are commonly horned. They are known for toughness, parasite resistance, brush-clearing ability, and strong maternal instincts. Spanish goats became well established in Texas and the Southwest and remain important in meat goat production, brush control, and ranch management.
